1 Classification of thermal spray materials

According to the shape, it can be divided into wire, rod, powder and long flexible pipe made of polymer materials; according to the composition, it can be divided into metals, alloys, self-fluxing alloys, composite materials, ceramics and organic plastics, etc.; according to functions, it can be divided into Wear-resistant, corrosion-resistant, self-lubricating, conductive, insulating, and other functional materials.

 

2 The basic requirements that thermal spray materials should meet

The thermal spraying material withstands high temperature during the thermal spraying process, and flies in the heat source, then hits the surface of the workpiece at high speed to produce deformation, and forms a laminate after quenching. The coating will produce stress when it cools and shrinks, so thermal spraying materials should not only meet the requirements of performance, but also meet the requirements of thermal spraying process performance.

 

(1) Thermal spray materials should meet the basic requirements for the functional characteristics of thermal spray coatings, such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, self-lubricating, electrical conductivity, insulation, etc.

 

(2) Thermal spray materials have good chemical and thermal stability during the heating process, and will not produce harmful chemical reactions and unfavorable crystal transformations.

 

(3) The coating material should have good physical properties, no high toxicity and no possibility of violent explosion. It has good performance matching and bonding strength with the substrate or transition coating.

 

(4) The coating material should meet the requirements of the process and equipment, such as the wire material should have sufficient strength and appearance, and the powder material should have sufficient fluidity.
